Preliminary sizing only — not a structural design
SpanRef provides reference span values transcribed from published span tables, plus tools to look them up and organise them, for educational and preliminary-sizing purposes. It is not a structural design, engineering advice, or a code compliance determination, and it is not a substitute for the locally adopted building code or a licensed design professional. Loads, species, grades, moisture, bearing, connections, and openings for a real project can differ from the tabulated assumptions. Always confirm the final member size with your local building department and a qualified engineer or architect before building.
Span data
Span values are reproduced from published, code-recognized tables — the International Residential Code (IRC) span tables and the American Wood Council's DCA6 deck guide — with the source and edition cited on each page. Editions and locally adopted amendments vary; confirm the values against the code edition your jurisdiction has adopted. Figures are provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy or fitness for a particular purpose.
